My Story
Montgomery County
Diagnosed at age 30
In 2024, I had a pregnancy loss, went through genetic testing and completed 3 back to back egg retrievals with IVF. Upon genetic testing, I found out I was positive for the BRCA1 gene. Multiple biopsies later (MRI guided/mammogram guided and ultrasound guided) I received the call- I have triple negative breast cancer. We were informed by 2 different tumor boards that this looks early, I’m young, healthy and they are confident we can get this out and recommended surgery as first course of action. I knew I wanted to get a double mastectomy because I don’t want this to ever be an obstacle later on. I underwent a skin sparing double mastectomy June 30 & had the pathology days later. It was more invasive/ larger than suspected and it snuck into 1 of the 3 lymph nodes removed pushing me to stage 3A. I completed 12 rounds of carboplatin/taxol chemo, 4 rounds of AC chemo, a implant exchange and 16 rounds of radiation. I am on lynparza for one year to prevent reoccurrence. I am grateful for early detection and medical professionals. I couldn’t have gotten through this without the support and love of my husband, family, friends and dogs
